Being one of the most multicultural institutes in England, Sheffield Hallam University is the 11th largest university in the UK. The university was founded in 1843 and received its current name and status in 1992. The history of Sheffield Hallam can be traced back to 1843 when the Sheffield School of Design was founded to provide skilled designers to support Britain's industry. The university is also affiliated with the prestigious Association of Commonwealth Universities and EUA. With approximately 30,000 students, the University of Sheffield acquired its Royal Charter in 1905 and has since established itself as one of the UK's largest and best-regarded research universities. Sheffield Hallam University is ranked between #801–1000 in World University Rankings by Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022. The QS World University Rankings 2022 places the university between #1001-1200 globally. It is also regarded as one of the best modern universities in the north of England, UK and has eight subjects ranked in the top 20 in the UK (The Times and Sunday Times University League Table). The university is also placed at 67th position in the Complete University Guide's University League Tables 2022 and 59th position in the Guardian University Guide 2022. 

Campus, Courses and Infrastructure

In the last five years, the university has invested more than £100 million in flexible, sustainable, and innovative facilities, including an award-winning £27 million complex with state-of-the-art teaching spaces and flexible learning and study areas, a £6 million investment in a new maths hub and a new home for the internationally renowned Materials and Engineering Research Institute, and a landmark £30 million building in the city centre with specialist facilities for the Sheffield Institute of Educa­tion. The university comprises two campuses and four renowned schools namely: The Faculty of Science, Technology and Arts (STA), The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH), The Faculty of Health and Wellbeing (HWB), and Sheffield Business School (SBS). Situated in Sheffield, students also enjoy a vibrant and safe lifestyle that includes all the essential amenities and entertainment. Apart from its professional education in various courses, the university is known for its exceptional training, quality education and academics in the fields of social sciences, food science, and management. There are also 24-hour libraries, student-designed study rooms, and opportunities to learn on industry-standard equipment at the institution. Accomplishments and Alumni

The University of Sheffield is one of the top 100 universities in the world, with a reputation for excellence, influence, and uniqueness in research-led learning and teaching. International independent assessments routinely affirm Sheffield's strong performance in terms of quality teaching and research. Sheffield's Students' Union is consistently ranked the finest in the UK for its student experience. Sheffield's research was rated as world-leading or globally outstanding in the most current UK Research Excellence Framework. It was here that the first medical application of penicillin was pioneered in 1930, and it was here that researchers created a lifesaving medicine for the treatment of ovarian and breast cancer more recently. Sheffield Hallam University has the world's largest PlayStation teaching lab thanks to a collaboration with Sony. Its engineering students practise designing aeroplanes in a flight simulator, while its healthcare students practise treating cancer patients in a 3D virtual radiation room. Sheffield has a distinguished history of research, invention, and social transformation, with six Nobel Prize winners among its previous personnel and students. Some of the notable alumni of the university include Jane Tomlinson (English athlete), David Slade (British film director), Charles Sargeant Jagger (British Sculptor), Astrid Zydower (British Sculptor) and more.
