Medical Council of India

All the medical colleges in India are needed to be recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI) as per Indian law till the formation of the National Medical Commission (NMC) from 14 October 2019. MCI is a body that conducts licensure exams for medical professionals and maintains a uniform code at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The accreditation of all the top medical colleges in India by MCI grants registration to medical practitioners and monitors medical practice in the country. Besides, the council has also partnered with the councils of other countries to offer mutual recognition. Dr Jayshreeben Mehta is the current President of MCI.

Eligibility Requirements

In order to be eligible to apply to any of the top medical colleges in India, aspirants need to write the NEET entrance exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Earlier students had to take AIIMS MBBS separately, however, the AIIMS MBBS exam has been cancelled and replaced by the NEET exam. The NEET exam is all set to be held in May 2021. Admission to medical colleges in India is also done through medical entrance exams like JIPMER and IPU CET.
