About BTech in Civil Engineering

BTech in civil engineering is one of the popular courses in India for science students. It is an undergraduate program which aims to integrate engineering concepts with material sciences and structural engineering. This course’s duration is like any other engineering course and lasts for 4 years ( divided into 8 semesters). The course is designed to enable critical thinking in students, in fields like material sciences and structural analysis. This course helps students become adept at design, operations, maintenance and analysis of structures. This course equips students with theoretical and practical knowledge and enables them to understand construction methods and the technology behind it. The popularity of the course is such that students even opt to pursue a PhD in civil engineering

Eligibility

Those wishing to pursue BTech in civil engineering from a reputed institute have to meet the following criteria:

  • The students should have completed 10+2 (preferably in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) from a recognized board with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in the above subjects.
  • Students with a Diploma Degree after their SSC/HSC exams are also eligible for a Btech in the civil engineering programme.
  • Additionally, the aspirants have to secure qualifying marks in the entrance exams such as JEE Mains, JEE Advanced, WBJEE, UPSEE, BITSAT.
  • To apply for Btech in Civil Engineering abroad, some foreign universities might require SAT scores, along with English proficiency certificate in IELTS/TOEFL/ PTE. Additionally, students are required to submit a Statement of Purpose and Letter of Recommendation.
