About the University

History, Affiliations and Rankings

The Delft University of Technology, popularly known as TU Delft, is the oldest and largest technical university located in the Netherlands. In 1842, it was established as a Royal Academy to facilitate the education of civil engineers. Eventually in 1864, it rapidly expanded its education curriculum and became a polytechnic school. It was in 2005 that it gained full university rights. In 2019, the university was ranked as one of the top 20 best universities for engineering and technology internationally and received the highest rank in the Netherlands. In the QS World University Rankings 2022, DU Delft University occupies an overall position of #57.
