What is Tissue Engineering?

Tissue engineering is the process of creating functioning tissues by combining scaffolds, cells, and physiologically active substances. It arose from the research and development of biomaterials. The goal of tissue engineering is to build functioning structures that can be used to replace, preserve, or improve damaged tissues or entire organs. The FDA has approved engineered tissues such as artificial skin and cartilage, but their use in human patients is currently limited.

What does a Tissue Engineer Do?

Tissue engineers work in the field of biomedical engineering, which encompasses a wide range of disciplines. Tissue engineers are part of a larger network of engineers, not just in the biomedical field. They produce tissues in laboratories to replace or repair human parts and organs. This page will cover Tissue Engineering’s career prospects, scope, job opportunities, eligibility, top companies, and more.

Future Scope of a Tissue Engineer

Tissue engineer’s purpose is to develop functional tissues that can be used to restore, maintain, or repair damaged organs or tissues. Tissue engineering allows patients to be treated for diseases and illnesses that might otherwise render them incapacitated or kill them. It allows tissue regeneration in situations where natural regeneration is impossible. Tissue engineering, in a nutshell, allows the body to mend itself.
