What is the GMAT Online Exam?
GMAC launched the online GMAT exam for impacted regions which are located outside of Mainland China, Cuba, Iran, Sudan, Slovenia and North Korea and for anyone who was planning to appear for this exam this year. It is a version of the original GMAT exam which is being conducted in a remote proctored environment. Appointments for the exam are available round the clock and dates are available 6-months out on a rolling basis.
Online GMAT Exam 2022 Changes
GMAC has announced enhancements to the GMAT Online Exam 2022. With these enhancements, the GMAT Online exam will provide you with even more choices and flexibility. Here are the enhancements that will be available:
- View your official score immediately
- Selection of your section order
- Take two 8-minute optional breaks
- Write your AWA assessment
- Disability accommodations
- 5 free score reports which must be used within 48 hours of receiving the official score
Registration, Fees & Documents
There is a simplified process for registering for the GMAT online exam. You need to visit the official website of the exam by clicking here and then creating a new account by clicking on “Register Now”. Then, select your appointment details, i.e. online exam date and time as per your choice and preference and then complete the GMAT registration.
The exam fee for GMAT online is 200 USD (roughly 14,720 INR) and this also comprises free and unlimited score reports sent to business schools and universities around the world. Along with this, here are the accepted ID documents you can choose from to show the ID proof before the exam:
- Passport
- Military ID (spouse and dependents added)
- Driver’s License
- Any national or local identification card
- Any registration card such as visa, green card, permanent resident, etc)
Also, there is no reschedule or cancelling charges for the online exam and you can only reschedule/cancel your exam within 24 hours of the appointment date and time and after that, no changes are allowed.
GMAC has also provided disability accommodations with 50% and 100% extended time as well as a 10-minute extended break and respective candidates can schedule an appointment only after their accommodation is approved. Eligiblity for the At-Home GMAT Exam
The online GMAT test will be available in impacted geographies, outside of Mainland China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Slovenia. Thus, anyone who is not able to take the test due to COVID-19 is eligible for taking the GMAT exam at home.
Exam Pattern
The GMAT online version has a similar exam pattern to the offline mode and the sections are as follows:
- 31 Quantitative Reasoning/ 62 minutes
- 36 Verbal Reasoning/ 65 minutes
- 12 Integrated Reasoning/ 30 minutes
- 1 Analytical Writing Assessment/ 30 minutes

How to Take GMAT Online Exam?
Since the online GMAT can be slightly newer in terms of taking the exam online, there are certain things you must keep in mind while appearing for this new version. Here are some useful tips to help you ace the online GMAT:
Practicing the Online GMAT Version Before the Exam
Make sure to go through the online whiteboard available as a rough sheet during the exam. Here’s a snapshot of the online whiteboard which you can use during the exam and you can practice on it before by visiting the official GMAT website.
Go through the policies and procedures available on the official website, check the ID requirements (mentioned above) and also run a system test by clicking here to ensure that your computer and internet is ready.
During the GMAT exam
The check-in time for GMAT online is 15 minutes so make sure that you are available online within this time and then remove any devices [headphones, mobile, notes, etc.] from the computer or laptop you are using. You can also not use touchscreens, stylus or graphic tablets during the exam.
What to Do After the Exam
Wait until 7 business days for the official scores of GMAT online exam which will be submitted in your account. You can then start sending your scores to your preferred business schools and universities. Moreover, the approach to GMAT scoring and results is the same for the online version.
The GMAT score validity is of 5 years and cancellations or retakes for the exam are not provided unless authorized retakes or technical issues are validated.
