Types of Nursing Courses

Here are some more options for a student to choose from:

  • Associate Degree

In most countries, an associate degree is a nursing-focused course aimed at equipping students with a concrete elementary understanding of nursing. It is completed usually in two or three years and graduates are inducted into an entry-level position at hospitals or care-giving organisations. It is important to note that associate degrees always need to be followed up by a national nursing exam which certifies the student’s capability to begin work.

  • Bachelor’s Degree

A bachelor’s degree in nursing is a definite requirement. Though, longer in duration, it is advised that students complete it in order to reap greater benefits later on in their careers. There are various specialisations that a student may take, namely, adult care,  childcare, mental health, community practitioner, veterinary nursing, acute care, clinical nursing, et cetera. Most countries require bachelor’s degree holders to pass a mandatory qualification before being able to start work.

  • Masters and Doctoral Degrees

These are research-oriented programmes in nursing geared to understanding and investigating the field of nursing and patient care. They involve a lot of fact-finding studies, groundwork and field research. Students may also take up full-time nursing after their studies if they choose to.

There are a plethora of Nursing colleges in the world offering various courses, however, completing the admission process can be a daunting task.
