History, Affiliations and Rankings
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was founded in 1963 with the amalgamation of the Chung Chi College, United College and New Asia College, with the vision to collate the best of Chinese and Western cultures. The first Bachelor degrees were awarded in 1964, followed by the setting up of the Graduate School in 1965, the first in Hong Kong, through which the first Master's degrees were awarded in 1967, while the first PhD program was launched by the University in 1980. Today, it is a comprehensive, forward-looking and enterprising University, which is the third most international university in the world. CUHK is affiliated with the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL), Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), International Association of Universities (IAU), Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia (ACUCA) as well as with the Washington University in St.. Louis.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
The campus is a 137.3-hectare infrastructure that overlooks the Tolo Harbour. It is the largest and greenest in all of Hong Kong. A number of different facilities are housed within the campus such as world-class libraries, art museums, music halls, swimming pools, sports fields, tennis courts, squash courts, water sports centres and gymnasiums. There are a large number of research courses that are available in many subject areas which strive to provide scope for all students to collaborate with industry experts.
Accomplishments and Alumni
The alumni network of the Chinese University of Hong Kong reaches far and wide as there are students from all over the world who come to study here. Four Nobel prize winners, namely Chen Ning Yang, James Mirrlees, Robert Alexander Mundel and Charles K. Kao are associated with the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
