Duke University, a private research university, was founded in the year 1838 by Quakers and Methodists. It was established in the present-day town of Trinity, which was later shifted in the year 1892 to Durham, North Carolina. Duke University has been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, master's, doctorate, and professional degrees. Its rankings are among the top universities in the world. The university has been ranked by some of the prestigious ranking bodies - QS World University Rankings, THE Ranking, US News and Report Ranking, and CWUR Rankings. For instance, Duke University has been ranked 52nd by the QS World University Rankings 2022. Duke University is ranked #9 among National Universities by US News and World Report 2022 and THE (Times Higher Education) - University Ranking has ranked it at 23rd place in 2022. 

Infrastructure, Campus and Courses 

With a total main campus area of approximately 9,000 acres spread across three sub-campuses, this university also has other three campuses, namely East Campus, which houses the freshman campus and various academic departments, West Campus which spans an area of around 720 acres, and the Central Campus which is spread across 200 acres. Duke has 15 acres (61,000 m2) of land in Beaufort, North Carolina, for its marine lab. The 54-acre (220,000 m2) Sarah P. Duke Gardens on the main campus, which was built in the 1930s, is one of the primary tourist destinations. Students at Duke frequently refer to the school as "the Gothic Wonderland," a popular moniker for the West Campus' Collegiate Gothic buildings. Duke University has an 8:1 student-to-faculty ratio and 75.4 percent of its classes have fewer than 20 pupils. Accomplishments and Alumni

The university also offers financial aid to its students via numerous scholarships, to assist them on either a merit-basis or need-basis. Among its most recent academic accomplishments are the three Rhodes Scholars that came from among its students in 2002 and 2006. Major publications place Duke among the best institutions in the US and the entire world. With a national acceptance rate of 5.7%, undergraduate admissions are among the most selective in the nation. Duke is one of the top ten largest research colleges in the country, spending more than $1 billion annually on research. To the joy of Harry Potter enthusiasts everywhere, Duke researchers also released the first practical example of an invisibility cloak in 2006. This university has produced some well-renowned alumni, such as Carlos Boozer (NBA player), Melinda Gates (co-founder of The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation), and Ron Paul (former U.S. Congressman). Currently, this university houses 3 Turing Award Winners and 13 Nobel Laureates. 

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

Duke University to the academic demands of students from over 120 countries. It provides degrees to 9,569 Graduate & Professional Students and 6,526 undergraduates. The student body at the university is ethnically diverse and politically active; as a result, Martin Luther King Jr. spoke about the civil rights movement on campus in the 1960s, and the statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee was taken down from the entrance to Duke University Chapel following the unrest in Charlottesville in 2017. The university has a record of excellent placement facilities. It also organizes various career events organized every year. Some of the top employers include - Microsoft, Accenture, and Deloitte.
