National Scholarships
At the national level, the MHRD offers some scholarships, the tuition fee of which are either waived partially or completely. Here are the major MHRD scholarships offered at the national level.
Scholarship for College and University Students (CSS)
- The Central Sector Scholarship is offered to students who are studying in a government-recognized engineering or medical colleges in India.
- The students are expected to score above 80% in their 12th standard.
- The scholarship is offered to those who have an annual family income of less than 6 lakh.
- The scholarship amount offered is Rs 10,000 per annum for the first 3 years and Rs. 20,000 for the 4th and 5th years.
Special Scholarship for Jammu and Kashmir
- This MHRD Scholarship is offered to students who are residents of Jammu and Kashmir and have completed their 10+2 in the state itself.
- The scholarship is offered to those who have an annual family income of less than 6 lakh.
- Fields covered are General Streams, Engineering Branches, and Medical Science.
- For Engineering and Medical streams, Rs.1.25 lakh and Rs 3 lakh per annum respectively will be provided. However, for the general courses, Rs 30,000 per annum will be disbursed.
Scheme of Scholarship to Students from the Non-Hindi Speaking States for Post Matric Studies in Hindi
- The scholarship is offered to students who study Hindi in a state that does not have Hindi as their official language.
- The Scholarship expands from 11th standard to PhD.
- The amount offered under this MHRD scholarship ranges between Rs 300 – Rs 1,000 per month.
External MHRD Scholarships
External scholarships are offered by a wide range of countries for scores of UG, PG, or Doctoral programs. While some cover full tuition fees, others give partial fee waivers. Commonwealth Scholarship for New Zealand

- There is no age limit defined.
- The applicant must have completed their UG/PG degree in a college recognized by the government of India with at least 65% marks.
- For those who are abroad, their applications will not be taken into consideration.
- The scholarship will cover full tuition fees, medical and travel insurance, establishment or fortnightly allowance, etc.
- Submitting IELTS/TOEFL scorecard is required.
Commonwealth Scholarship for the UK

Here are some important criteria to pursue this scholarship program:
- Notification released between August-September.
- The age should not be more than 40 years.
- The applicant needs to submit the IELTS score.
- A stipend of £1,043 per month will be offered. Spouse or child allowance is also available.
- For both Masters and PhD, a minimum of 60% marks or above is required for Humanities and Social Sciences and 65% or above in Engineering, Technology, Agriculture, and related fields.
