The Heinrich Boll Scholarship is awarded to graduate, postgraduate and doctoral students for any subject they wish to pursue at a German higher institution. It is awarded to nearly 1200 students every year by the Heinrich Boll Foundation. The scholarship is for students who wish to pursue higher studies. Through the Heinrich Boll Scholarship programme, Indian students get an opportunity to pursue a degree in Germany. Heinrich Boll Scholarship Grant Details

  • The Heinrich Boll Foundation offers scholarships for students who wish to pursue higher studies i.e. graduate, postgraduate or doctoral degree.

Heinrich Boll Scholarship Eligibility

The eligibility criteria varies for German students, EU Nationals and non EU Nationals, Let’s have a look at the eligibility criteria for the Non EU Nationals.

To be applicable for receiving the Heinrich Boll Scholarship, candidates must meet the following requirements:

For UG and PG courses 

  • Candidates must provide their first educational qualification certificate.
  • Candidates must apply at the earliest, knowing the deadline.
  • Candidates must provide German Proficiency Proof – Level DSH 2 or B2.
  • Candidates are eligible for admission to any state or state-approved university.

For Doctorate

  • Candidates must have proof of doctoral studies admission at a state or state-approved university that should be attached to the application.
  • Candidates must provide German Proficiency Proof – Level DSH 2 or B2.
  • Candidates must have completed preliminary work and the submission of a valid timetable for completion is required

How to Apply

Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can apply for the Heinrich Boll Scholarship can apply for it by following a step by step application process. The application process is online and the portal remains open for six weeks prior to the deadline. The application process for is given below:

  • Candidates must check the latest deadline on the official website.
  • Candidates can access the form through the online portal.
  • Candidates must carefully fill up the application form and upload the required documents the portal asks for in pdf format.
  • Finally, candidates are requested to click on the “Submit” application form. Thus, successfully completing the application process.

Heinrich Boll Scholarship Selection Process

The selection process is a three staged process : 

Stage 1 : Applicants are to submit their applications along with all the required documents and most importantly, personal reference on the applicant’s social commitment. On the basis of their academic qualifications ,  political interest, and social commitment, the reason for applying for the scholarship and the quality of research project, applications are thoroughly reviewed.

Stage 2 : After a thorough review process, an interview is conducted with the liaison lecturer which could be either telephonic or personal. The selection process is carried out after a careful evaluation of the profiles.

Stage 3 : Chosen applicants will be called for a workshop – Group Discussion and Personal Interview round conducted at Berlin.

Candidates can reapply if they could not clear the first or the second stage. However, those who were rejected in the selection workshop are not allowed to reapply.
