The Department Backward Classes Welfare of Government of Karnataka has introduced the Karnataka Vidyasiri Scholarship to aid post matriculation studies. The scholarship scheme is specifically designed to provide financial aid to SC/ST/OBC/PWD students who aspire to continue their education in degree courses or any other professional course. Moreover, the government is trying to make this scholarship distribution system quicker and simpler with the help of ePass (Electronic Payment and Application System of Scholarship). Understanding Vidyasiri Scholarship

The Karnataka Vidyasiri Scholarship helps students with merit afford higher education because the tuition fee of the course will be paid by the Government in the form of scholarship, which decreases the burden on the backwards classes.

The Government of Karnataka provides this scholarship in the following 3 forms:

1. Fee for post-matric courses or free hostel accommodation.
2. Full course fee concession for FC, PMS FAAS and NUR.
3. Prathibha Puraskar Scholarship for Secondary PUC/SSLC.

Post Matric Courses Under Vidyasiri Scholarship

You are eligible for this scholarship scheme if you are pursuing any of the below-mentioned courses:

Group A

• Degree and Postgraduate Level Courses in Medicine, Agriculture, Veterinary and Allied Science, Technology, Engineering, Architecture, Planning, Design, Fashion Technology, Management, Business Finance or Administration, Computer Science or Application
• LLM
• CPL courses for both multi-engine rating and helicopter pilot
• PG diploma in various branches of medicine and management
• CA/CS/ICWA/ICFA
• MPhil/PhD/DLitt/DSc

Group B

• Graduate courses in BPharma, BNursing, LLB, PFS and other paramedical branches like diagnostics, rehabilitation etc, Hotel Management & Catering, Mass Communication, Travel and Tourism, Hospitality Management, Nutrition & Dietetics, Interior Decoration, Commercial Art, Financial Services for which Sr. Secondary or 10+2 is the minimum qualification.
• Postgraduate programmes not e.g. MSc/MA/MCom/Masters covered under Group Pharma and MEd

Group C 

• All other courses under Group A and leading to a graduate degree are not covered under BA/BCom/BSc.

Group D

• Non-degree courses that require a minimum Class X qualification.
• Senior Secondary Certificate (class XI/XII)
• General and vocational stream
• ITI courses
• 3-year diploma in Polytechnics

Documents Required

Candidates who are eligible for Vidyasiri scholarship are required to carry a set of the following documents in original formats at the time of reporting:

• Senior Secondary Leaving Certification
• School or College Issued Transfer Certification
• Family Income Certificate
• Aadhar Card of Father/Mother/Guardian
• Residential Proof
• Caste Certificate (SC/ST/OBC/PWD) issued by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate or Tax Officer (Tahsildar or Sub-Tahsildar)
• Bank Passbook Copy for Account Details
• Latest Passport-Sized Photograph of the Candidate

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for Vidyasiri Scholarship are mentioned below:

Free Hostel Accommodation

The Government of Karnataka provides fee for post-matric courses or free hostel accommodation to students who belong to SC/ST/backward classes.

• The candidate should belong to backward class related to  Category I, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, SC and ST.
• The limit of the annual income of the parents of the candidate should be ₹ 2.50 lakh.
• The distance between the candidate’s location and the college where the admission is made should be at least 5 km.

Prathibha Puraskar

• The candidate should be a permanent resident of Karnataka.
• The candidate should belong to the backward class related to Category I, 2A, 3A and 3B.
• The limit of the annual income of the parents of the candidate should be: Category 1 is up to ₹ 2.50 lakh and Category 2A, 3A and 3B are up to ₹ 1 lakh.
• The candidate should be studying in the Government/private schools/colleges of Karnataka.
• The candidate who secured 90% or above in Secondary PUC/SSLC exam held in March/April 2023.
• The candidate can avail of the Prathibha Puraskar facility only once for equivalent courses.

Full Course Fees Scholarship

• The candidate should be a permanent resident of Karnataka.
• The limit of the annual income of the parents of the candidate should be: SC/ST is up to ₹ 2 lakh and backward class/PWD candidates are up to ₹ 1 lakh.
• The candidate should be studying post-matric courses from schools or colleges recognized by the Karnataka government.
• The candidate should have 75% attendance.

Vidyasiri Scholarship: Application Process

We have formulated a step-by-step procedure that needs to be followed for applying for the Karnataka ePass Scholarship or Vidyasiri Scholarship. It is recommended that you first read all the guidelines or instructions for a particular scheme to avoid any incorrect submission which may lead to cancellation.

1. You will have to visit the official website for Electronic Payment and Application System of Scholarship.
2. Click on the link “Apply Online”.
3. You may now click on “Fresh Application 2023”.
4. Carefully fill in all the details and upload the required documents.
5. Click on the “Submit” button for final registration.
6. The system will generate an application number which must be saved for tracking the application status.
7. Once complete, take a printout of the application form.

Note: For candidates applying through institutions or colleges, the registration date is one week before the ending date.

Vidyasiri Scholarship: Know your Application Status

Once you have applied for the Karnataka ePass Scholarship, you can follow the steps given below to check your scholarship application status:

1. You will have to visit the official website for Electronic Payment and Application System of Scholarship.
2. Click on “Karnataka Epass Application Status”.
3. You may now enter your application number.
4. Select the academic year.
5. Choose the correct SSLC pass type and enter the passed year.
6. Now enter SSLC registration number and your date of birth.
7. Finally, click on “Get Status”.
8. Your Kar Epass application status details will be displayed on your screen.

E- Pass Karnataka Renewal Procedure for Vidyasiri Scholarship

To renew the Karnataka Scholarship, candidates have to take the following steps:

• First and foremost, visit the official website of ePass Karnataka.
• Select the scheme you want to apply/renew the application form.
• Click the link – Vidyasiri Scholarship Renewal.
• Enter your previous year’s Application Number and Date of Birth.
• Fill out the form with your personal and academic details.
• After filling in the details, you will be allotted the ePASS Renewal Application status.
