If you are an Indian student wanting to study during the major intakes in the UK, you have to apply to their courses through the UCAS platform. UCAS registration process has made studying in the UK an easier process for international students. 

Initially, UCAS was formed by joining two major admission bodies (UCCA and PCAS) so that a common platform can be formed to ease the burden of the universities. Both home students and international students use the UCAS application to apply to study in the UK after 12th for their undergraduate degree.

Application Deadlines 

It is advised that you start your UCAS registration process well in advance of your application deadline. UCAS application deadlines are fixed depending upon the deadlines provided by the universities for specific courses. Yet, there are a few common deadlines for every round of applications in 2022 and they are given below:-

The eligibility to start your UCAS registration depends upon your course-specific eligibility requirements. The minimum eligibility for undergraduate courses in the UK is a 12th passing certificate and proof of English Proficiency.

How to Apply to Universities in the UK through UCAS?

You should be attentive and focused during your UCAS registration process because it entails a lot of details to be put in. Here’s the step-by-step guide that will help you throughout your UCAS application. 

  • Start with your profile details for UCAS registration

The first step is to enter your basic personal details and the buzzword that the school/college has provided you with. If you are applying through your school/college, they will give you a UCAS buzzword that you have to enter while registering. If you are applying independently, no buzzword is required. Enter correct details as you will be only allowed to create a profile ONCE in one admission cycle. 

  • Profile Created

Once your profile on UCAS has been created, a username and passcode will be given to you. You will be asked more about pre-funding, scholarships, residential status and disabilities.

  • Choose your Courses 

UCAS allows you to apply to 5 universities/courses in one admission cycle and there is no order or preference of universities. If you are applying to the University of Cambridge or Oxford, you can apply to only one course in one admission cycle and if you are applying for medical courses, you can apply to only 4 universities in one admission cycle. 

  • Full Education History 

The next step is to enter all your educational qualifications along with your college and school information according to the country-specific requirements. 

  • Full Employment History 

Enter the details about your full-time jobs, part-time jobs and internships if you have worked anywhere. Remember to only add your paid jobs and internships as the voluntary work or free internships have to be written in your Statement of Purpose

  • Statement of Purpose 

A personal statement or statement of purpose for UK is an essay that tells the university why you are a great candidate for the course and how you can contribute. Ensure that your leadership qualities and voluntary work is mentioned in the personal statement. 

  • Proof-read your Application

Now that your application has been filled, take a final look at your application to look for mistakes and correct them. You can only register once in one admission cycle so there should be no mistakes that could lead to rejection of the application.

  • Pay the Application Fee and attach the Letters of Recommendation

If you applied for one course, you have to pay £20 or INR 2,016 and if you have applied for more than one course, you have to pay £26 or INR 2,621. Your school or college will pay for the application fee if you are applying through them and you will have to pay them. Additionally, you have to attach your letters of recommendation from your faculty at school or college who can verify and recommend you to the universities you have applied to.

  • Results 

Through the UCAS Track service, you will be given the results of all applications on your profile itself.
