This blog will tell you everything about the discipline, from its eligibility criteria to its career scope. Read on to know more!

Robotics and Automation Engineering: Overview

Robotics and automation engineering is a branch of engineering that deals with the design, development, and application of robots and automated systems. It is a fascinating and challenging field that combines various disciplines, such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. By studying robotics and automation engineering, you can acquire skills and knowledge that are in high demand in various industries and sectors, such as aerospace, automotive, healthcare, defence, education, agriculture, and entertainment.

Eligibility Criteria

To pursue a bachelor’s degree in robotics and automation engineering (B.Tech or B.E.), you need to have completed 10+2 with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as core subjects from a recognized board. You also need to have a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in 10+2.

To pursue a master’s degree in robotics and automation engineering (M.Tech or M.E.), you need to have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of engineering from a recognized university. You also need to have a minimum aggregate of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA in your bachelor’s degree.

For Universities Abroad

To pursue bachelors in this field abroad, an applicant from India needs to have studied and scored around 75% in English and other Science-related subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Computer Science. English proficiency certifications such as IELTS and TOEFL are also universally required. Moreover, US schools require undergraduate degree applicants to appear for the SAT exam as well.

To pursue masters in this field abroad, a high-ranking bachelor’s degree in any engineering discipline is desired but any science-oriented programme is accepted by a majority of universities. A strong personal statement and quality letters of reference significantly increase the chances of acquiring an admission offer. English proficiency needs to be proved through tests like IELTS and TOEFL. US universities also require GRE scores. A score of 320 or more is recommended on the GRE score.

Admission Process

The admission process for robotics and automation engineering courses varies depending on the college or university you choose. Generally, you need to appear for an entrance exam conducted by the respective institution or a national or state-level exam. Some of the popular entrance exams for robotics and automation engineering are:

  • JEE Main: Joint Entrance Examination Main is a national-level exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to undergraduate engineering programs in NITs, IIITs, and other institutes.
  • JEE Advanced: Joint Entrance Examination Advanced is a national-level exam conducted by one of the IITs for admission to undergraduate engineering programs in IITs.
  • BITSAT: Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test is an online exam conducted by BITS Pilani for admission to undergraduate engineering programs in its campuses.
  • SRMJEEE: SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Examination is an online exam conducted by SRM Institute of Science and Technology for admission to undergraduate engineering programs in its campuses.
  • VITEEE: Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination is an online exam conducted by VIT University for admission to undergraduate engineering programs on its campuses.

Some colleges also offer merit-based admission based on your marks in 10+2 or bachelor’s degree. You need to fill an online or offline application form and submit the required documents to apply for admission.
