The Government of Quebec Merit Scholarship is opened for international students to support the research activities in Quebec’s institutions of higher education. This program is offered in order to attract students who pursue vocational training, technical training at the college level, or studies at the university level. Eligibility Criteria for Government of Quebec Merit Scholarship

Here is the eligibility requirement for different types of student programs: 

Vocational Training Students 

Eligibility of the Scholarship

To be eligible, students need to pursue full-time studies in a vocational training program leading to one of the following: 

  • Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS)
  • Attestation of Vocational Specialization (AVS)

Applicants enrolled in good job prospects are given priority. In addition, priority is given to international students from leading markets in Asia (China, India, Japan) and America (Brazil, Mexico). 

Students of France are not eligible for this program since they benefit from distinct regulations through an agreement between Quebec and France. 

Value of the Scholarship

Enlisted are the awards of the scholarship: 

  • For 900 hours programs – $14,000 (INR 10,39,220)
  • For additional 100 hours programs – Extra $1400 (INR 1,03,900)
  • For 1800 hours programs – $26,000 (INR 19,29,980)
  • Programs of fewer than 100 hours are not eligible. 

In addition to the scholarship, all recipients are entitled to an exemption from the differential tuition fees payable by international students, and to the health insurance protection provided by the Régie de L’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ).

To submit the application, visit the Quebec metiers d’avenir online platform provided by Education Internationale. It will get verified by Education Internationale once it has been submitted and that all the documents are up to date. 

Technical Training Students at the College Level

Eligibility of the Scholarship

To be eligible, students need to pursue full-time studies in a technical training program leading to a Diploma of College Studies (DCS). The public or private college where the studies take place must be accredited for the purpose of funding and be located in the Quebec region outside the Greater Montreal area. Students must also be citizens of a member country of the escape francophone (available in French only). 

Value of the Scholarship

The scholarship is valued at $14,000 (INR 10,39,220) per year. The scholarship recipient must re-apply on a yearly basis, up to a maximum of three years, which is the normal duration of the technical training program. 

In addition to the scholarship, all recipients are entitled to an exemption from the differential tuition fees payable by international students, and to the health insurance protection provided by the Régie de L’assurance Maladie du Québec (RAMQ). 

How to Apply

The application must be sent to the Federation des CEGEPs (available in French only), while scholarship applications to be preselected by private colleges are submitted to the Association des colleges prives du Quebec (ACPQ).

University-Level Students 

Eligibility of the Scholarship

To be eligible, students need to pursue studies or research activities at Quebec University. Scholarships are available for: 

Value of the Scholarship

Doctoral Research Scholarships: The maximum amount for this scholarship is 3 years. The award amounts to $25,000 (INR 14 Lakhs) per year. 
Postdoctoral Scholarships: $35,000 (INR 20 Lakhs) for one year, non-renewable.
Short-term Research or Professional Development Scholarships: $3000 (INR 1.7 Lakhs) per month for a period of up to 4 months.

How to Apply

All applicants must be selected from the educational institution. Preselected applications are then submitted to the Fonds de recherche du Québec Nature et technologies (FRQNT).

To apply for a scholarship, contact the university in question. 

Documents Required

The following documents must be submitted by the students to the university:

  • A photocopy of the candidate’s passport’s identifying page from their country of origin
  • Transcripts, including those for certificates, diplomas, Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees, etc.
  • All articles submitted receive publisher acknowledgments of receipt.
  • two reference letters.

English Language Requirement

To demonstrate their English language skills, applicants must provide their PTE, TOEFL, IELTS, or other test results.

Benefits

The scholarship will be given to the chosen candidates according to their course level, as described below:

  • A doctoral research scholarship is worth $25,000 (INR 14 Lakhs) each year. The maximum prize is $75,000 (INR 44 Lakhs), divided into nine payments over nine semesters.
  • A postdoctoral scholarship is worth $35,000 (INR 20 Lakhs) per year. The most that can be given out is $35,000 in three instalments over the course of a year.
  • Scholarships for short-term research or professional development have a monthly value of $3,000 (INR 1.7 Lakhs) each. The maximum payout is $4,000 (INR 2 Lakhs) in 4 monthly instalments, or $12,000 (INR 7 Lakhs).
