CDU welcomes international students

Australia is all set to get back international students to the universities. Charles Darwin University- CDU welcomes international students first time after the pandemic. A flight carrying 63 students landed in Darwin on Monday, 7:30 AM. Students had to connect to the Changi Airport for chartered Singapore Airlines flight to Darwin. 

This pilot program is an important step towards the recovery of international education in Australia. After completion of the quarantine period, CDU is hosting a welcoming session at the Casuarina campus for the international students. 

Safety Measures by CDU

Andrew Everett who is the Global Strategy and Advancement and CDU Deputy Vice-Chancellor confirmed that the program of welcoming the international students strictly followed the safety measures directed by the Cheif Health Officer of NT. 

Mr Everett also said, “We have been working closely with the Northern Territory and Australian governments to ensure the health and safety of the Northern Territory community and our students remains the highest priority.

Students had to follow the pre-departure health screening and the guidelines given by the NT Chief Health Officer. After reaching Darwin, they were taken to the Northern Territory Government facility for a 14-day quarantine at Howard Springs. 

CDU will be providing care packages, daily phone calls. virtual coffee catch-ups, safety briefing, exercise classes, employability workshops during the quarantine period. 

After completing the quarantine period students will be studying in Casuarina, Waterfront, Palmerston and Alice Springs campuses. 

Vice-Chancellor of CDU on Welcoming International Students

Professor Simon Maddocks, CDU Vice-Chancellor said that the university is leading the nation by initiating the process of getting back international students. He further added that the set of 63 students includes both new and continuing students who are pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate and VET programs in Law, Nursing, IT, Teaching, Accounting and Engineering.

“International students are vitally important to CDU. It has been a tremendous effort by our staff to make this pilot program a reality.”
