BTech Lateral Entry

A Bachelor of Technology [BTech] is a specialized engineering degree offered in a particular sub-field, for instance, Chemical Engineering with an emphasis on industry-oriented knowledge and training. Further, during the program, students develop a solid understanding of other allied disciplines like business writing, entrepreneurship, languages, communication and so forth. Owing to its technical nature, the applications of a Btech degree spans not only to industries of core engineering but also service-oriented companies such as banking, finance, data science, and even biology and genetics, amongst others, depending on the track chosen. While the entrance and application routes are typically the most preferred routes for gaining entry into a BTech degree at a recognized college/university in India, the BTech Lateral Entry route is less popular but equally effective one. What is BTech Lateral Entry?

Especially catering to individuals possessing a 3-year Diploma or Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant discipline, e.g Diploma in Civil Engineering, through the BTech Lateral Entry route, one can directly gain entry into 2nd year [3rd semester] of a conventional BTech course at an applicable college/university. Moreover, there is no difference in course content, teaching specifics, curriculum and grading systems. Taking into consideration that a Diploma in India can be undertaken after the 10th standard itself, this is an alternative method that gears up an individual in prevalent industry techniques and to develop a practical outlook.
