About Bihar Public Service Commission

As already mentioned above, the Bihar Public Service Commission is one of India’s most reputed competitive examinations. It allows students to apply for different services of the Bihar State Administration. This exam is often confused with the Union Public Service Commission due to the exams’ similar nature. However, the key difference between UPSC and BPSC is that UPSC is a national level examination and BPSC is a state-level examination. Here is the BPSC exam pattern in detail:

Preliminary: Preliminary or Prelims are the first stage of the total three stages of the BPSC examination. The exam is a written exam conducted in offline mode, which lasts for two hours, and the total weightage of the exam is 150 marks. 

Mains: Mains is the second stage in the BPSC examination and all the students that clear the preliminary stage are eligible to sit for this stage. This examination consists of four different subject exams. The subjects and their weightage is as follows-

  • General Studies 1- 300 marks
  • General Studies 2- 300 marks
  • Hindi- 100 marks
  • Optional exam- 300 marks.

All the exams are conducted in written offline mode consisting of subjective type questions and the time allotted for each exam is three hours. 

Interview Stage: The final stage of the BPSC examination is an interview. The interview is used to select final students based on their administrative and decision-making skills.

BPSC Online Application

All those eligible for the BPSC combined competitive exam must fill out the online application form to appear for the April 2023 Prelims. Registration for the Main exams is open from 25 November 2022.

The Preliminary Exam is scheduled for 12 February 2023.

Interview Test

This is the final stage in the Bihar Public Service Commission- BPSC examination. All the students who clear the preliminary round and the mains stage of the examination are eligible to sit for the interview test. A board which the commission usually appoints leads the interview. This is one of the toughest stages of this examination as they have to select only the cream layer of students. The candidates are evaluated on the following basis-

  • The application form filled by them before sitting for the interview and mainly the interest put in by them.
  • Their knowledge of current affairs by conducting a personality test.
  • Their critical thinking and analytical skills are evaluated.
  • They are evaluated on their preparedness so as to determine whether or not they have that mindset or not.

BPSC Result

Out of 2, 57,000 candidates, only 247 candidates qualified all the rounds of examinations – Prelims, Mains and Interview for the BPSC combined competitive exam. Candidates can download their scorecard from the website and check the list of roll numbers released by the authority to ascertain if they are eligible for job vacancies under the Bihar state government..

How many exams are there in BPSC?

How many attempts are there in BPSC?

For Bihar Public Service Commissions, there is no limit on the number of times a candidate can appear for the exam. However, there is an upper age limit. For General- Male candidates, it is 37 years and for general- female candidates, it is 40 years. For OBC candidates and SC/ST, it is 40 years and 42 years respectively.
