History, Affiliations and Rankings

Established in 1876, Texas A&M University was the first University of the State of Texas and is the only university in Texas designated as a Land-grant, Sea-grant, and Space-grant institution. It was established as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas on a land offered by the citizens of the Brazos County. Admissions to the first classes were open only for White male students, with the student body diversifying only in the 1960s, when Texas A&M formally opened for African-American students as well as women students. One of the largest universities in the United States, Texas A&M is academically affiliated with the Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU), and the Universities Research Association (URA). In 2001, the University was also accepted as a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU). Texas A&M at College Station is a founding member of the Texas A&M University System, which is one of the 10 largest foundations in the US. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings place the University at #193, while according to US News and World Report, Texas A&M ranks at #140 in the Best Global Universities category for 2022. 

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses 

Texas A&M University’s main campus in College Station is located in the centre of the Houston-Dallas-Austin triangle, just a two-hour drive from 26 million of the state’s 28 million residents. Other locations are the branch campuses in Galveston and Qatar, the Law school, the McAllen Higher Education Center, and the Texas Health Science Center. Texas A&M University College State campus offers a range of student services, including Further Education, Women's Center, Employment Services, Day Care, Healthcare, Health Insurance. Alcohol is allowed for adult students at Texas A&M University. Student Diversity and Visiting Companies 

Texas A&M University has a student population of nearly 73,300 students, 67,133 among which study at the College Station campus and including 53,876 undergraduates. Around 7.2% of the total students make up the international student body at Texas A&M constituting 5,100+ students from more than 130 countries worldwide. 6,257 students attend Texas A&M from Asia, while there are 2,370+ African-American students and 47% of the overall population constitutes women students on the campus.
