In the renowned QS World University Ranking 2021-22, UCC is ranked 298th. This year, 1,673 universities were considered, with 1,300 making the final published list. The International Faculty indicator is the strongest for UCC, ranking 136 internationally.

Times Higher Education World University Ranking

UCC moved up to the 251-300 band in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking, which was published on September 2, 2021. This is THE’s flagship ranking and a crucial ranking for UCC, as outlined in UCC 2022. The final published ranking included over 1,600 universities from around the world.UCC improved its overall score, as well as its scores and rankings in each of THE’s five pillars: Teaching, Research, Citations (research Impact), Industry Income, and International Outlook. According to this ranking, UCC is the top Irish institution in terms of Research Impact and Industry Income.

ARWU – Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Ranking)

The top and most respected university ranking. In the most recent cycle of this ranking, UCC moved up to the 301-400 range and increased its total score. UCC is presently tied for second place in Ireland with UCD in this rating, which is limited to the top 2,000 universities in the world, of which 1,000 make the final published list. In this assessment, UCC retained its position as the top Irish university for highly cited researchers.

US News – Best Global Universities

UCC climbed 45 positions to 392 and improved its score in the most recent cycle of this global ranking, which was published on October 25, 2021. QS Graduate Employability Rankings

This year, IMI is ranked 66th in the globe for customized executive education, and 10th in the United Kingdom and Ireland. For the third year in a row, IMI maintains its position in the Open Enrollment Global Rankings. IMI has maintained its global ranking of 67th and is ranked 7th in the UK and Ireland for open enrolment programmes.

European Research Ranking

In the European Research Ranking, UCC is ranked first in Ireland and impressively 33rd in Europe. The data source is Cordis, and the ranking criteria include total funding per partner, the total number of projects, total project funding, networking rank (reputation), partner constancy, project leadership index, and diversity index.

Times Higher Education World Subject Rankings

Each October/November, rather than ranking specific subjects, THE releases rankings across eleven general subject areas. UCC has increased its standing and is now placed 151-175 for Clinical/Pre-clinical & Health, placing joint-first in Ireland with TCD. UCC is ranked 176-200 in the world for Life Sciences, whereas Psychology and Education are ranked 251-300.

15 UCC disciplines made the most recent version of the US new Best worldwide subjects list, up from nine last year. The following are some of the top performers:

Global Ranking of Academic Subjects – Shanghai 

A growing number of UCC disciplines are being included in the coveted Shanghai Ranking of worldwide subjects. In the most recent cycle, UCC appears in 16 of Shanghai’s subject areas:

  • In-home care (Top 75)
  • Dental care (Top 75)
  • Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacy (Top 150)
  • Medicine in Practice (Top 150)
  • Biotechnology (Top 150)
  • Public Health (Top 150)

QS World University Rankings by Subject

UCC performed admirably in the most recent QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022. According to the most recent ranking, issued on 6 April 2022, it is one of the world’s best institutions for the study of 23 subjects. UCC is ranked in the top 50 for one discipline (Nursing, at number 41) and in the top 100 for three others (Agriculture and Forestry, Pharmacy & Pharmacology, and Law at 59, 66, and 75 respectively).

UCC is ranked in the top 200 for 9 subjects: Nursing (No. 41), Agriculture and Forestry (No. 59), Pharmacy & Pharmacology (No. 66), Law (No. 75), Anatomy & Physiology (No. 101-150), English Language and Literature (No. 151-200), Politics and International Studies (No. 151-200), and Medicine (No. 151-200).

  • Modern Languages, Engineering – Chemical, Pharmacy & Pharmacology, Nursing, Chemistry, and Law were the six disciplines that advanced a band. UCC also has two new subjects in the QS Subject Rankings: Anatomy and Physiology and Politics and International Studies.
  • Nursing has the highest ‘academic reputation’ indicator score in comparison to its peers.
  • Archaeology has the highest score for the ’employer reputation’ indicator when compared to peers.
  • Agriculture and Forestry had the highest score for the ‘citations per paper’ metric in comparison to its peers.
  • Pharmacy & Pharmacology has the greatest ‘h-Index indication’ score in comparison to its rivals.

Overall, UCC now has four top 100 subjects (up from three), nine top 200 subjects (up from six), and appears 23 times on this global ranking (up from 20 last year). This is a significant improvement.
