What is Nabanna Scholarship?
Offered by the Government of Bengal through the West Bengal Chief Minister Relief Fund (WBCMO), Nabanna Scholarship is one of the most popular state-funded schemes for economically backward students. Walking on the lines of Bihar Scholarships, Haryana Scholarship, Punjab Scholarship, etc, the WB government also offers financial help to students who pass the Madhyamik Examination and want to continue with Higher Secondary, bachelor’s or masters program. The worthy and eligible applicants get Rs. 10,000 every academic year for the course they have enrolled in. Another advantage of this scheme is that an individual can apply throughout the year!

How to Apply for the Nabanna Scholarship?
Unlike other scholarship programs, the application form for Nabanna Scholarship has to be sent offline. Students can either download the form and fill it with the correct details or can write the whole application letter, attached with the necessary documents. Once completed, you will be required to submit the form at Nabanna, Howrah/Uttarkanya or Jalpaiguri. A receipt will be provided which will serve as proof of application.
Note: Avoid sending the application by speed post, the form might get rejected. Plus, you won’t get any receipt for the application.

Nabanna Scholarship: Eligibility Criteria
The first step to applying for the coveted state government scholarship is to fulfil the eligibility criteria set by the government. The prerequisites for Nabana Scholarship have been given a rundown below:
Residence
The applicant should be a permanent resident of West Bengal and should be able to furnish residency proof at the time of application.
Educational Background
In order to apply for the scholarship program, the candidate must have passed an examination from any State Board or a West Bengal Government Recognized University.
Income
The student’s family’s yearly income must not exceed INR 1,20,000. Those who don’t fall in the bracket are not eligible to apply for the Nabanna Scholarship.
Other scholarship
A candidate who is availing benefits from any other state or central government-provided scholarship including SWAMI VIVEKANANDA MERIT CUM MEANS SCHOLARSHIP cannot apply.

Documents Required
When it comes to the registration process for the Nabanna Scholarship, there is a set of documents required to proceed with the application. Glance through the following points to get an overview of the documents which are to be attached with the application form:
- Photocopy of the result of the previously passed examination.
- Admission receipt of the ongoing course or the fee receipt.
- Photocopy of Adhaar card.
- Passport size photos.
- Bank account details and photocopy of passbook.
- Scorecard of competitive exams like JEE.
- Monthly Income certificate copy attested by DM/class A Gazetted Officer/SDO/BDO/Dy. Commissioner or Executive Officer of Municipal Corporation.
- The copy of a recommendation letter sent by the MP/MLA to the Hon’ble Chief Minister [should consist of the monthly family income]
- A Self-declaration by the Candidate regarding his enrollment in his/her university including the course details and the receipt of any scholarship entertained by the student under the seal of the University Head.
Note: All the copies of the documents have to be verified and attested by a Class A Gazetted Officer.
Selection Process
The selection of students for this scholarship program will rely on two key factors: their performance in their most recent examination and their family’s financial situation. After submitting the application form, the assessment and verification process is expected to take approximately three months or longer to finalize.
The CMRF Cell at the Chief Minister’s Office will carefully review the scholarship applications. In certain instances, the application may be referred to the relevant District Magistrate or the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, for additional scrutiny and evaluation.
Once the students are chosen, the scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to their respective bank accounts.

Sanction & Disbursement
The received application form is sent for verification to the District Magistrate of Commissioner of Police, Kolkata for the required verification. Thorough checks regarding the background of the candidate are made along with verifying their financial aspects.
