Eligibility to Become CA after 12th

  • The candidate must have cleared the senior secondary examination or 10+2 examination.
  • A candidate who has cleared entrance examinations or foundation examinations or professional education is eligible for enrolment in Accounting Technician Course (ATC)
  • A candidate registered for intermediate/professional education or intermediate/ professional competence is eligible for enrolment
  • Students registered for the Intermediate IPC course without the ATC can also opt for this course

1. CPT Route after Class 12th

Register with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ICAI for the common proficiency test after the class 12th exams. One can even register after class 10th and appear for the exam after completing class 12th.

There are 4 subjects asked in the test namely Accounts, Law, Economics, and Quantitative Analysis. It is a 200 marks entrance exam. A minimum score of 100 out of 200 is required to clear it.

2. Register for the Integrated Professional Competence Course IPCC

A candidate who has passed both the CPT and class 12th exams is eligible to register for IPCC. The registration should be done nine months before the first day of the examination month. The IPCC exam includes seven subjects with 700 marks. A score of 40 marks in every subject is compulsory to clear the exam.

An overall score of 50% or above is also necessary. The exam has two categories, the first category has 4 papers namely Accounts, Law, Taxation, Costing, and Finance Management. The second category has 3 tests namely Audit, IT and Strategic Management, and Advanced Accountancy. On obtaining 60 marks in any subject, the candidate is exempted from reappearing for that paper in the next attempt.

3. Articleship/Internship

This is the next step after clearing the IPCC exam. It is a 3-year long training program or an internship that is done along with the CA final exam.

This training is provided under a qualified CA for the complete 3 years.

4. CA Final Course Registration

This examination is conducted during the last 6 months of the 3 years of an internship program.

The candidate can enrol as a member of ICAI, designated as a Chartered Accountant. Post clearing all the exams with flying colours, the candidate can call himself/herself a “Chartered Accountant” with pride.

5. Fees

The cost for the entire course of CA after class 12th is around INR 50,000 to 80,000. It includes all the charges such as registration fees, journal fees, orientation course fees, entrance exam fees, and others.

6. Duration of the CA Course

Well, it will take a minimum of  12th around 4.5 to 5 years after the class 12th to complete your CA course. The candidate must begin the CPT/CA foundation course.

The candidate is eligible for IPCC after 9 months. The eligibility for an internship is after group I of IPCC. Also, students can either take direct entry into the CA course after class 12th or they can take admission in the intermediate course after graduation. It entirely depends on the choice of the student. 

7. CA Syllabus

Firstly, the class 12th candidates need to prepare for their senior secondary examination. The commerce students have the subjects of Accounts, Law, Finance, and Economics. They must prepare for these in advance so that the CA exams are easily cracked.
