Canada Admission Process for International Students

The admission process for Canadian universities may differ based on the university, degree and chosen course, however, there is a general admission process that students should keep in mind before starting their applications. Here is a step-wise map for understanding the Canada Admission Process:

Step 1: Make a List of Universities of your Choice

The first step is to choose a course and make a list of the universities in Canada that offer that particular course. Research about where you want to live, career opportunities, cost of living, etc. Visit the official websites of the universities and browse through courses you’re interested in and get a clear idea about the university. If you need help finding the correct course and university, you can check out our AI-enabled Course Finder. It automatically curates a list of universities according to your preferences, making it easier for you to choose.

Step 2: Check the Eligibility Requirements and Gather Required Documents

Once you’ve selected the course and shortlisted a list of universities, the next step is to check the eligibility requirements. Check whether you are eligible for the particular course and all documents you require while filling out the application. LOR, SOP, bank statements, essays, updated resumes and official transcripts of previous academic degrees are part of supporting documents. Start collecting all the necessary documents to get ahead with your application process.

Step 3: Gather Test Scores of Proficiency Exams

While applying you may have to give certain mandatory tests in order to be eligible for the course. Tests like GMAT, GRE, IELTS, PTE or TOEFL  are required to be given. A copy of test scores of these proficiency scores is a mandatory part of the documents required for the application process. Step 5: Submit the Application

Check for application deadlines for each university. Make sure you fill out your personal and professional credentials thoroughly. Later on, submit your saved application form at the right time to the university.

Step 6: Accept Your Offer

After you submit your application, the universities take a few weeks to process the application. You will be informed via email about your acknowledgement or rejection. You need to decide whether or not to study in that university and in case of multiple offers, you need to choose one. The response would be either an unconditional offer which indicates the student’s acceptance to a particular course or a conditional offer which means that the admission would be confirmed if and when the students meet a certain admission requirement, usually exam results. You have to accept the offer by following the instructions provided in the letter.

Step 7: Fee Deposit & Accommodation

After receiving your acceptance, you would be required to deposit a certain portion of your fee before a deadline. You also need to apply for accommodation as soon as possible as these fill up pretty fast

Step 8: Apply for a Visa

After accepting your offer and depositing your fee, apply for a study visa for Canada. Gather the required documents and apply for the study permit. This would be the concluding step in your admission process, all you have to do is fly out and start your studies.
