History, Affiliations and Rankings

Northeastern Illinois University was founded in 1867 as a public university in Chicago, USA.  Initially, it was Cook's Country's first teacher training school. In 1971, the school became Northeastern Illinois University after it was granted university status. NEIU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It also carries accreditation by various disciplinary bodies, including the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), Council for Accreditation for Counselling and Related Education Programs (CACREP),  National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), and the National Council on Rehabilitation Education (NCRE). NEIU secured a ranking in the bracket #251-300 in QS World University Rankings (2022), #363 in US News and World Report Ranking (2022) and #401-500 in Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022. 

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

The main campus of Northeastern Illinois University is spread over 60 acres. The University campus consists of 18 modern buildings. It offers numerous courses and programs at its 4 different campuses. All four campuses are Northeastern Illinois University, the main campus, the El Centro, Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies, and the University Center of Lake County. North Eastern Illinois University's main campus is located in the community area of North Park and three other campuses are located in the metropolitan area of the city. NEIU offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees and certificate programs in Arts, Education, Science and Business. Undergraduate and Master's degree courses are offered in four colleges of NEIU. These are the College of Art and Sciences, College of Business and Technology, Daniel L Goodwin College of Education, and College of Graduate Study and Research.

Accomplishments and Alumni

Northeastern Illinois University is a global outreach university in the USA. The University has partnered with number of reputed international universities for academic collaboration and study abroad programs. The faculty pool of NEIU consists of highly experienced professors from around the world. Most of the faculty members hold PhD or terminal degrees in the respected fields. WZRD Chicago 88.3 FM is NEIU's longest-running free-form community radio station. The alumni of Northeastern Illinois University take on roles in all walks of life. The University has produced notable alumni, including, Tim McIlrath (Singer), John Pankow (Actor), Iris Y. Martinez (State Senator), Alan Hargesheimer (Baseball Pitcher), Robert Jordan (TV Anchor), Juliana Taimoorazy (Social Activist).

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

Northeastern Illinois University offers an enriching and vibrant campus life to its students. Apart from state-of-the-art academic facilities university has sports fields, swimming pools, a fitness centre and other recreational facilities. Student clubs organize athletic meets, talent competitions and cultural programs frequently in and around the campus. NEIU takes good care of both the physical and mental well-being of the students through health counselling sessions to the students. Career guidance services are also offered to the enrolled students for having a promising career. NEIU has incorporated the Handshake platform to assist students in finding employment.
