The Full Form of CAPF is the Central Armed Police Forces. CAPF is a group of seven security forces in India sanctioned by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Additionally, the crucial responsibility of CAPF lies in safeguarding the national interest, mainly in countering internal threats. Initially, they were known as the Central Para-Military Forces however, in the year 2011, they switched to CAPF to let go of the word “paramilitary.”

What is the Role of CAPF?

Furthermore, the Role of CAPF is as follows:

  • The CAPFs have been organized with the primary objective of safeguarding borders by organizations such as AR, BSF, ITBP, and SSB. 
  • Additionally, NSG and CISF have an important role in securing sensitive establishments, supporting the police in maintaining law and order, conducting counter-terrorism operations as well as addressing Naxal insurgency. 
  • Beyond their primary responsibilities, all CAPFs actively contribute to law enforcement situations and collaborate with the Army in counter-terrorism operations. 
  • In the past, both CRPF and BSF have assisted the Army during external aggression. 
  • CAPFs collaborate closely with the police and the Indian Army by performing various roles assigned to them.

Which Other Organisations does CAPF Serve?

Additionally, CAPF undergoes attachment and training at different levels, formations, and courses, collaborating closely with the Indian Army. CAPF members through deputation also serve in a list of other government organizations such as:

  2. Research and Analysis Wing (RAW)
  3. Intelligence Bureau (IB)
  4. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)
  5. Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB)
  6. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)
  7. Special Protection Group (SPG)
  8. State Armed Police Forces (such as Chattishgarh Armed Police, DRG, Jharkhand Jaguars, UP/MP STF, Bihar Military Police, IRB, etc.)
