• The Defence Research and Development Organisation was formed in the year 1958.
• It was a result of the amalgamation of the Indian Army’s Technical Development Establishments (TDEs), the Directorate of Technical Development and Production (DTDP) with the Defence Science Organisation (DSO). 
• During its inception, the DRDO was a small organisation with merely 10 laboratories. 
• Over the years, it has expanded into around 41 laboratories and 5 DRDO Young Scientist Laboratories (DYSLs).
