Eligibility Criteria for City University London Admission

The entry requirements at the City, University of London vary depending on the subject. There are, however, some criteria that are universal throughout all courses. Applicants can consult the course pages or contact the university for specific course prerequisites.

Undergraduate Courses Entry Requirements 

The entry requirement for undergraduate courses is a minimum of two A-level or equivalent passes, as well as the fulfilment of some specific course requirements. All undergraduate applications, both domestic and international, must be submitted through UCAS (the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service).

Postgraduate Courses Entry Requirements  

Applicants for City’s postgraduate programs should generally have a university Honours degree or comparable qualification in a relevant subject. Applicants without an Honours degree or equivalent may be accepted for a Master’s or Postgraduate Diploma provided they have appropriate experience and/or professional qualifications. Furthermore, the institution recognizes a number of pre-Masters programs, including those offered by Kaplan International College London and INTO City, University of London.

English Level Requirements  

Each course has its own set of English requirements. As a result, applicants are urged to check individual course pages for specifics on the City, University of London Admissions procedure for programs that have special criteria. Following are the minimum English requirements for admittance.

  • IELTS Academic and SELT (UKVI): A minimum of 5.5 in each of the test areas, within two years of the date on which the CAS is generated. IELTS scores from all test centres are accepted, not simply those on the SELT list as identified by UKVI. IELTS Indicator Test with minimal scores indicated above is also accepted.
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: A score of 59 in Writing, Speaking, Listening, and Reading each. PTE Academic Online test is also accepted. The exam must have been completed within two years of the CAS-generation date. PTE General is currently unavailable.
  • Trinity College (Integrated Skills): ISE11 – pass in all areas.
  • Cambridge English Advanced: In all sections, a minimum score of 162 is required (Level B2).
  • Cambridge English Proficiency: In all sections, a minimum score of 162 is required (Level B2).
  • TOEFL iBT and TOEFL at-home solution: Overall, 72 points with no less than 17 points in Writing and Listening, 18 points in Reading, and 20 points in Speaking.
  • Oxford Test of English (OTE): Overall, 120 points, including at least 111 points in each component.

Note – Students who are a citizen of or have finished their university degree from a majority English-speaking country are not required to demonstrate English proficiency to enrol in a City course.
