History, Affiliations and Rankings
Located in Rockhampton, Australia, Central Queensland University or the CQUniversity is an Australian public university based in central Queensland. The university was earlier known as the Queensland Institute of Technology when it was founded in Rockhampton in 1967 (Capricornia). It was one of the first Australian institutes to offer distance education in 1974. Additional campuses were developed at Bundaberg, Emerald, Gladstone, and Mackay between 1978 and 1989, and the Institute was granted full university status in 1992, becoming Central Queensland University. Today, CQUniversity has more than 30,000 students studying qualifications, from Certificate to Post Doctorate level. The university is accredited by the Regional Universities Network, which is a network of seven universities primarily from regional Australia. CQ University is the only Australian institution to be recognised by Ashoka U, a worldwide social innovation organisation, as a Changemaker Campus. The Times Higher Education World Rankings place CQUniversity in the top 800 universities in the world. They are ranked among the top 650 universities in the world by QS World University Rankings. Times Higher Education and QS World University Rankings have named it one of the finest universities under 50 years old in the world.
