What is a Backlog?

Many universities accept backlogs in Australia, but before that, let us find out what backlogs actually are. Backlogs are created when you are unable to crack an exam on the first attempt. There are several exams in different semesters for students. Sometimes, due to various reasons, students are unable to pass that exam. This goes in the record of backlogs. Students are required to re-take that paper to qualify. It is important to note that absenteeism and voluntary improvement exams do not count as backlogs. Here are a few important points about backlogs:

  • Backlogs in most countries except Germany and Australia is calculated as the number of subjects you have failed.
  • Despite failing each subject more than once, your number of backlogs will be the number of subjects and not the number of times you take the test.
  • In Germany and Australia, the number of backlogs is the number of attempts you have taken to pass an exam. If you passed an exam after four attempts, your backlog will be for and not one.
  • After completing your course, you can ask the university authorities to provide you with a backlog certificate that mentions the number of backlogs you have.
