What is SAT Superscore?

It is a well-known fact that you can take the SAT test as many times as you want. Normally, everyone would think that you can submit scores from the exam you score best in. But the SAT super scoring method takes that stress off the students by making them convenient in score submission. SAT super score is the sum of your highest scores in each test section. Basically, it means that if you take two tests, then you can take the highest scores from the respective sessions which makes your composite score.

For instance, your SAT scores from the previous two attempts are as follows:

  1. English: 30, Reading: 29, Math: 31, Writing: 9
  2. English: 33, Reading: 27, Math: 30, Writing: 10

Using SAT superscore calculator, your superscore will be:

  • English: 33
  • Reading: 29
  • Math: 31
  • Writing: 10

SAT Superscoring allows you to take your best scores from each session which eventually makes up for your composite score. However, you cannot add these new scores on your own and submit that as your final score to the college. You have to report the results for each individual time you have appeared for the test. After submitting both the scores to the college, the admissions team will separate the highest scores.

Superscoring is allowed in both SAT and ACT, but the scores of only one test can be super scored. You cannot add the total of highest scores from both these tests and present them as a composite score. However, you should also keep in mind that SAT super scores are accepted by some universities and some do not accept super scores. So, you should check the official websites of the universities you’re aiming for beforehand in order to get more clarity.
