Absaar Aejaz from Bemina, Srinagar is one among the few students around the world who has scored 800 out of 800 in three subjects – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT). She has excelled in the Assessment with perfect scores and credits her success to her family and friends who helped her with their guidance and support.
The 18-year-old Aejaz also told the local newspapers that the prolonged periods of lockdown and the internet blockade in the Kashmir Valley was a huge set-back as it was hard to obtain information and study materials. “The lockdown and internet blockade since last year in Kashmir hampered my studies. It became hard to obtain information and other study material online. The slow internet speed consumed my valuable time. I felt helpless” she said.

Currently a 12th standard student in Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Chanapora, Aejaz loves to read and update herself in the fields of Astrophysics, Physics, Engineering and Mathematics. Her dream is to pursue a career in Computer Science Engineering at the University of Chicago.
“There is a lack of awareness and opportunities among Kashmir students, due to the disturbed atmosphere in Kashmir valley. But this shouldn’t stop us from trying our luck and talent at various international platforms. Students should do a lot of research and look out for opportunities across the world. We should strive to make our place at the top institutions of the world” she said. She also talks about how students should never feel restricted to the few opportunities available and should always aim for more.

About SAT Exam
SAT is a standardised entrance assessment for the students aspiring to get admissions for undergraduate courses around the world. In August, Hundreds of students from the Kashmir Valley attended the test as it is the first time that the Delhi Public School in Srinagar has conducted the examination. The SAT scores of students is one of the important factors to secure an admission in the prestigious institutions of the USA, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom.
