One of the oldest universities in Hungary, the University of Debrecen began as the Calvinist College of Education in 1538. It gained the university status in 1927 and since then has maintained a strong association with Calvinist College's Debrecen Reformed Theological University. The university comprises of 13 faculties spread across the disciplines of Medicine, Music, Law, Pharmacy, Public Health, Engineering, Informatics, Dentistry, Economics & Business, Humanities, Child & Special Needs Education, amongst others. It is divided into two main campuses located in Debrecen, i.e. the older main campus which houses the faculties of Science, Music, Informatics, Medicine and Humanities and the newer Kassai-road campus which hosts the faculties of Economy and Law. It has also created several smaller units including a separate mini campus for the Faculty of Agronomy and another one of the Faculty of Engineering situated on Ótemet? street. The university’s library is one of the largest ones in the country and has more than 6 million records. Moreover, the University of Debrecen originally only offered programs in Medicine but now it also provides various English-learning courses for international students. It is home to over 27,000 students and has 2,000 academic staff members.
