About the University of Law

Before learning more about the University of Law rankings and awards, let’s shed some more light on the history of this university. The University of Law, established in 1962 as The College of Law of England and Wales, is the largest law school in the United Kingdom. The university offers law degrees, speciality legal training, and continuing professional development courses for British barristers and lawyers.

Its antecedents may be traced back to 1876. The College of Law was established as a charity by royal charter in 1975, but its educational and training business was separated and formed as a private limited company in 2012, prior to attaining university status. The College of Law Limited, and eventually The University of Law Limited, grew out of this. In 2006, the college received degree-granting authority, and in 2012, it changed its name to The University of Law (ULaw), becoming the UK’s first for-profit educational institution to be awarded university status.

“We are extremely proud of the results of this year’s National Student Survey which confirms our position as a highly student-ranked university placed at the very top in England and the UK.”
