The name “Ivy League” refers to a set of eight famous private institutions in the United States‘ northwest region. History of Ivy League

Seven of the eight ivy league colleges existed centuries before the term was coined. The origins of the Ivy League name remain mysterious but most historians believe it was coined in 1937 by Caswell Adams, a sports writer. Most people agree that the origins of the name remain the school’s athletic past.

The Ivy League has decided that sports scholarships would not be offered, therefore students participating in this league must be both scholars and athletes.

However, a formal proposal to form the Ivy League was drafted in 1945. However, some sources suggest that 1954 was the official date of the birth of the Ivy League.
