What is the ISAT Exam for Australia

The Overseas Student Admissions Test (ISAT) is a requirement for international students who wish to study medicine, dentistry, or other healthcare-related courses in Australia. The Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) developed the exam to provide an indicator of overseas students’ cognitive ability who have applied for admission to an Australian university. The 3-hour computer-based test is meant to measure each candidate’s critical thinking and quantitative reasoning abilities. The exam contains 100 multiple-choice questions and is meant for international students who wish to start a medical career in Australia.

What is ISAT?

ISAT is a three-hour computer-based multiple-choice test that evaluates a candidate’s intellectual capabilities and talents, which are the cornerstone of tertiary academic performance. The Australian Council for Educational Research created the exam independently (ACER). ACER has a strong international reputation and a good track record in the creation, administration, and study of undergraduate medical and health-related selection examinations. ISAT is given as a computer-based test all around the world by ProctorU. ACER is a non-profit organization that is one of the largest providers of educational guidance, goods, and services in the globe. ACER collaborates with schools and universities to create and implement assessment systems that are valid, dependable, relevant, and equitable.

ACER creates the ISAT and distributes the results to applicants and colleges that participate. ProctorU is a major provider of comprehensive testing and assessment services across the world. From 2022 forward, the ISAT will be administered by ProctorU. ISAT is built to exact professional and technical specifications. A team of ACER test writers who are experts in various academic areas creates the exam questions. To guarantee that the testing program is relevant, fair, legitimate, and trustworthy, the content, style, and duration of the exam are defined.

ISAT test data is statistically analyzed to ensure that each exam question performed as expected. To minimize gender, racial, or cultural prejudice, test questions are thoroughly scrutinized throughout production. The exam may contain a small number of trial questions that will not be scored as part of the continuous development of ISAT. ProctorU’s standardized test administration protocols and procedures, to which all proctors must follow, provide appropriate and secure test circumstances. All components of the test creation and reporting are overseen by ACER.

How to Register for ISAT?

Candidates who desire to take the ISAT must first create an ACER ISAT account. On the main page, when you’ve made an account, you can choose to register for ISAT. To register for an ACER account, please go to https://registration.acer.edu.au/.

Please double-check that your name and date of birth match those on the identity papers you’ll bring to the exam. Your Admission Ticket and Statement of Results will also include these facts. To modify your account’s name, date of birth, or gender, send an email to the ISAT Office. It’s critical that your email address is current and has been maintained throughout the registration, testing, and reporting process. After an account has been activated, it may be used to register for future events.

How to Prepare for ISAT?

ISAT is used to evaluate your ability in a variety of cross-curricular competencies. ISAT assesses skills such as reasoning, making logical inferences, and making decisions across time. The test does not need any prior knowledge of a certain subject. As a result, cramming or coaching would be of little use. Reading extensively and critically about what you read may be the greatest way to prepare. However, some knowledge of the sorts of questions commonly seen in ISAT is beneficial. Candidates should be informed that no commercially available ISAT preparation courses are supported by ACER.

 Exam Structure

  • The ISAT consists of 100 questions, and you have three hours to finish it. The exam is divided into Units, each of which has a stimulus (text, cartoon, graph, diagram, etc.) and multiple-choice questions related to that stimulus.
  • The testing duration is 3 hours (180 minutes), and a timer is displayed in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
  • One by one, test questions appear on the screen. A “unit” is a collection of questions based on the same stimulus. A unit may have up to five questions, with the stimulus material being repeated for each question.
  • You respond to the question by selecting your preferred choice from the radio buttons underneath it, and you navigate using the “Next” and “Back” buttons at the bottom of the screen.
  • The list of question numbers and your replies appear after Question 100, and you can review and revisit any questions.
  • When you’re finished, click “Submit.” After you submit, you will receive an automated Notice of Completion via email. If you’re still working when the timer runs out, the exam questions and review page will disappear after 180 minutes, and your replies will be submitted automatically.
