History, Affiliations and Rankings
Bond University was founded on 15 May 1989 when it welcomes its first 322 students to its state-of-the-art campus in Queensland's Gold Coast. As Australia's #1 University for Student Experience, it features a three-semester per year timetable. Admissions to this university are done through Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre based on the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). The university celebrated its 30-year mark when it opened in the year 2019. In this same year, the university severed ties with the UK’s Prince Andrew and his former organization Pitch@Palace Global. The university got its university status in April 1987 by an Act of the State of Queensland’s Parliament and it was recognized as an accredited Australian university by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA). The Times Higher Education World University Rankings place Bond University in brackets #251-300 and QS World University ranked it at 481 positions in 2023.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
The campus is located at Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia and features a series of sandstone buildings centred on the human-made Lake Orr. The students at Bond University get to access a number of academic, technological and recreational facilities. The campus also includes Health & Sports faculty and also a Legal Skills Centre featuring the Faculty of Law. There are 150+ courses offered here which include Bachelor's and Master's degrees, as well as diploma courses and English Language courses. It has 4 Faculties to support both research and teaching activities, which are, the Faculty of Business, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine and Faculty of Society and Design. The University also consists of the Bond Business School, as well as a Microcredential Unit for the students to upskill with self-paced courses for professional development.
Accomplishments and Alumni
Bond University is Australia's #1 University for Student Experience and Satisfaction. The Good Universities Guide 2022 gives a 5 Star rating to the University across multiple parameters, including Overall Experience, Learner Engagement, Teaching Quality and more. Also, the University holds a 5-Star rating by QS Stars. According to the QILT Employer Satisfaction Survey 2020, employers reported a 92.9% rate of satisfaction with Bond graduates, which is the highest in Australia. Further, the Australian Research Council has rated Bond's research in specific subject areas as either, "world standard," "above world standard," or "well above world standard." More than 28,000 students have graduated from Bond University thus far, who work in all fields - academic, government or business - and are popularly known as the "Bondy," in Bond University terminology. Some of the notable alumni are - David Baxby (CEO of Virgin Management Asia Pacific), Steven Ciobo (Federal Member for Moncrieff) and Luke Baines (Actor).
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
Bond University is a "Small University" in Australia with a student population of 4,000. The student body comprises 36% of the students coming from South East Queensland, 18% from the rest of Australia, and 46% constitute the international student population on the campus. The gender mix among the student body is fairly balanced, with women constituting a slightly higher percentage of 53% of students. Student life at Bond University is exciting and involves plenty of activities, clubs and events to engage in when not in the classroom. In addition to student clubs, there is a state-of-the-art Sports Center, recreation facilities and dining options that allow students to connect and socialize on campus. Deloitte, EY, PwC, Macquarie Group, MinterEliison, Accenture, KPMG Australia and other multinationals have employed graduates from Bond University.
