History

Television has changed the lives of ordinary people because you can just sit on your couch and enjoy sports, series, movies, cartoons, etc at home. With the invention of television in the late 19th and early 20th century, it was the first time that moving images were projected on a screen from different parts of the world. 

As per the information, the first World Television Day was celebrated on 21 November and since then, this day has been designated as World Television Day to commemorate the World Television Forum held in 1996. The motto behind the forum was to collect people from various sectors belonging to the media industry and to recognize the impact of television. 

Prior to the invention of TV, people were dependent on radio broadcasting to acquire information about serious issues related to economic or social. Apart from that, the newspaper was also a source of information. but with technological advancements, TV technology advances and now the optics and digital upgradation in the picture quality have made people attracted to TV.

The theme for World Television Day 2023 was chosen by The Global TV Group i.e. “Accessibility”. Although TV has replaced radio still there are many people and places in the world where television is not accessible. The total TV can be accessed anytime, and on any device but this theme focuses on the motive that TV should be equally accessible to anybody without any differentiation of one’s vision and hearing ability.

Importance of World Television Day

This day is celebrated as the World recognizes the enduring importance of television as a powerful electronic medium that provides education, and information, enables global connectivity and acts as a source of entertainment. 

Every year ACT (Association of Commercial Television), egta (Association of TV and Radio Sales Houses) and The Global TV Group collectively promote World Television Day with various industry actors. 

This day is not merely a day of celebration of electronic devices, in fact, it is celebrated to acknowledge the philosophy behind this day i.e. transparency and accessibility to world issues. TV represents communication as well as globalization plus it also acts as a source of entertainment.
