International student visa applications for Australia are seeing a record growth in 2022 after dropping to almost none in 2020 and 2021. June sees a strong upsurge in visa applications for Australia while the numbers generally decline in July, August and September. This is corroborated by the actual numbers as well.
As per the data from Department of Home Affairs, Australia saw 42,700 student visa applications in June 2022 followed by 30,801, 25,580, and 24,344 in July, August, and September 2022 respectively. These are significantly higher numbers than the corresponding months in 2018 and 2019.
It is a strong indication that student interest in Australia higher education universities is at an all-time high. Study abroad experts are assuming unlimited working hours introduced by former Immigration Minister Alex Hawke and recently extended by the Australian government till 2023 to be one of the key reasons behind this uptick in applications.

Australian student visa grant rates, however, have a slightly different trend. The grant rates have largely remained consistent with a slight drop in 2022. However, September 2022 has seen the lowest grant rate of Australian student visas so far.
That doesn’t seem to have deterred international students in the slightest as the number of arrivals and departures have started to increase after the border reopening in February 2022.
