Despite the recent COVID-19 pandemic, Germany still continues to draw Indian graduates. The application cycle started recently and according to the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Indian students are at the top of international applicants list, with about 8,300 students qualifying for different undergraduate and postgraduate courses in German institutions due to which there has been an increase in demand of German scholarships.
Interestingly, the number of scholarship applications from students of different countries have also increased this year, says DAAD. Over the years, there is a significant increase in demand of German scholarships from German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Approximately 60 per cent more German students than the year before qualified for DAAD scholarship opportunities in Western Europe and North America, in specific Postgraduate degrees.

These three nations are most popular amongst students who choose Germany as their study abroad destinations due to which there was an increase in demand of German scholarships while countries like the United States, France and the United Kingdom, are widely preferred by German doctoral students. Researchers’ enthusiasm in subcontinental phd scholarships rose significantly more than 30% opposed to 2019, while candidates from South Korea, Indonesia and Australia displayed growing interest in DAAD scholarships.
The current state of affairs as a result of Covid-19 inevitably leads to a paradox where the pandemic severely restricts global academic exchanges, there is still a significant increase in demand of German scholarships, said DAAD President Joybrato Mukherjeein a release.
The 5,000+ applicants for postgraduate degree scholarships in Germany contribute to about 20% more than it was last year Russia, Azerbaijan and the US qualifying for the highest percentage of scholarship opportunities.
That being said, Germany’s confederal diplomas and qualifications for the DAAD Artists Program remained consistent or reduced moderately. The system recognizes it would have to terminate a variety of common and requested courses, such as academic summer and winter course scholarships in Germany, or international travel scholarship opportunities for conferences and seminars as a consequence of global pandemic.
