Unit 1: Physical World and Measurement

Chapter 1- Physical World

Under this chapter of the Physics syllabus for class 11, the students will get to learn about:

  • Physics-scope and excitement
  • Nature of Physical Laws
  • Physics, Technology and Society

Chapter 2- Units and Measurements

In the second chapter of the first unit of the Physics syllabus for class 11, the students will be familiarized with measurement principles through the topics like Units of measurement; systems of units; SI units, fundamental and derived units; length, mass and time measurements; errors in measurement; accuracy and precision of the instruments for measurement; significant figures. Additional topics like dimensions of physical quantities, dimensional analysis and its applications are also included in the syllabus.

Unit 2: Kinematics

Chapter 3- Motion in a Straight Line

The second unit of the Physics syllabus for class 11 includes the concepts of Frame of Reference; Motion in a straight line (position-time graph, velocity and speed); uniform and non-uniform motion; velocity-time and position-time graphs; uniformly accelerated motion; average speed and instantaneous velocity; relations for uniformly accelerated motion.

Chapter 4- Motion in a Plane

The students are made to understand the concepts of scalar and vector quantities through the topics like general vectors and their notations, position and displacement vectors, equality of vectors, multiplication of vectors by a real number, relative velocity, addition and subtraction of vectors, unit vector. Apart from this, concepts of vector though the resolution of a vector in a plane, rectangular components, scalar and vector products of vectors are also elucidated.

Unit 3: Laws of Motion

Under this section of Physics syllabus for class 11, the main topics covered are:

  • Newton’s three laws of motion
  • Law of conservation of linear momentum 
  • Static and kinetic friction.
  • Dynamics of uniform circular motion

Unit 4: Work, Energy and Power

  • Kinetic energy, work-energy theorem, power
  • Work by a constant and variable force
  • The notion of potential energy, the potential energy of a spring, conservative forces: conservation of mechanical energy (potential and kinetic energies)
  • Non-conservative forces (motion in a vertical circle)

Unit 5: Motion of System of Particles and Rigid Body
