A centrally funded merit-cum-means scholarship, Central Sector Scheme Scholarship is an initiative by the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The CSS Scholarship provides financial aid to students facing financial difficulties in completing their desired higher education. It is disbursed to a total of 82,000 graduates and postgraduates. Out of the total number of applicants to be selected, 50% of seats will be awarded to female candidates and the other 50% to male candidates. CSS Scholarship awards INR 10,000 per annum every year for the first three years of graduation and INR 20,000 will be awarded for the fourth and fifth year while pursuing postgraduation. Objectives
Through the Central Sector Scheme or CSS Scholarship, the MHRD aims to empower underprivileged meritorious students by providing them with the awards through which they can pursue higher studies in the field of their choice as well as manage their day to day expenses.
Eligibility Criteria
Here are the major eligibility requirements for the Central Sector Scheme or CSS Scholarship 2020!
- Applicants must have secured 80th percentile or above in class 12th examinations from a reputed board
- The candidate shall pursue a regular full-time course from academic institutions recognised by the All India Council of technical education, UGC Act 1956, dental Council of India, Medical Council of India, or any other respective regulatory authority
- It is mandatory for the candidate not to be associated with any other scholarship or fee waiver program
- Those who are pursuing diploma or certificate courses are not eligible for the CSS Scholarship
CSS Scholarship: Reservation Scheme
As the primary motive of the scheme is to provide monetary help to the economically weaker families of the society, CSS scholarship also offers certain relaxation to reserved categories of the country. All the candidates subject to Central Reservation Policy, that is, belonging to weaker sections, reserved categories or minorities are open to avail these reservations:
- Scheduled Caste: 15%
- Scheduled Tribes: 7.5%
- Other Backward Classes: 27%
- Physically Handicapped/ Person with Disabilities: 5%
CSS Scholarship: Important Documents
In completing your application process, you will need certain documents as well as academic transcripts that have to be necessarily attached to the online form. For the CSS scholarship, listed below are the documents that you need to keep handy:
- Aadhar card number
- Original mark sheet of class 12th
- Passbook of the bank account under the applicant’s name to fill up the bank details
- Income certificate of the family
- If applicable, a caste certificate
- If applicable, a disability certificate
Rewards
The major parameter for deciding the potential applicants for the CSS scholarship is the marks obtained in the senior secondary examination. Depending on this 82,000 fresh scholarships will be given out to 41,000 male students and 41,000 female students. With the help of these awards, candidates are eligible to pursue programs in feels like Medical, Engineering, etc.
After segregating the fair share of CBSE and ICSE boards by calculating the number of students passing out from them in the country, the total number of scholarships will be divided amongst the State Education Board based on its population that is aged between 18 to 25 years. The portion of CSS scholarship allocated to the state board is further divided into the ratio 3:2:1 for the streams such as Science, Commerce and Humanities. The scholarships for the state board are subject to change in case of shortfall of applicants.
