Australia to Rebate Visa Fees💰 for International Students

Prime Minister Scott Morrison recently announced a rebate or refund of $630 or INR 33,780 (current exchange rate) on the visa application fees. International students who get accepted in the Australian universities have to apply for the Subclass 500 visa, which allows them to stay in the country while pursuing higher education.

As a student who undertakes the financial burden of studying abroad, a rebate on visa application fees is a huge relief. However, this temporary measure is only beneficial to students who apply for the Australian student visa in the next 8 weeks. This means that if students travel to Australia between 19th January 2022 to 19th March 2022, they are eligible for a refund on the application fees. 

“Come on down!” the Prime Minister said. The announcement comes after Australia faces a critical skilled labour shortage. By inviting students and backpackers, the government wishes to fulfil the global exposure hole once created by the unfortunate pandemic. 

The Australian government has been striving to make the country an attractive option to fly in to study or work amidst the ongoing pandemic. Earlier this year, Australia also relaxed international students’ working hours’ restrictions. While students were only allowed to work 40 hours per 2 weeks/fortnight, they could work more than 40 hours in any economic sector. Additionally, you can start working before your course commences. These incentives are driving the number of visas issued for Australia higher.
