1818: Death of Warren Hastings 
On this day in 1818, India’s first governor-general Warren Hastings, an English statesman, the head of the Supreme Council of Bengal took his last breath. 

1848: Mexican-American War
Mexican-American War, to negotiate the disputed Texas border, USA claims against Mexico and purchased New Mexico and California for up to $30 Million.

1894: Gandhi Forms NIC
Mahatma Gandhi forms the Natal Indian Congress (NIC) in order to fight against discrimination against Indian traders in Natal.

1921: Gandhi Burnt the Holi of Foreign Clothes
Mahatma Gandhi raised the slogan of Swadeshi by burning holi of foreign clothes on August 22nd and started a different kind of protest against the British. 

1979: Sanjiva Reddy Dissolves Lok Sabha
President Sanjiva Reddy described, “In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by sub-clause (b) of clause (2) of Article 85 of the Constitution, I hereby dissolve the Lok Sabha.”

1944: Adolf Hitler Ordered Paris to be Destroyed
On this day, Adolf Hitler sent an order to destroy Paris. Dietrich von Choltitz was a German general, also known as Saviour of Paris who disobeyed his order and instead surrendered it to free French forces when they entered the city on August 25th. 

1984: Re-nomination of President Reagan
Republic convention in Dallas renominates President Ronald Reagan and Vice President George H.W Bush.

1994: Murder of Interest
On this day, a DNA test links O.J Simpson who is an NFL running back and convicted criminal to the killing of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman.

2004: “The Scream” and “Madonna: Stolen
These two paintings by Edvard Munch, are stolen at gunpoint from the Munch Museum in Oslo, Norway. 

2018: Millionaire George Clooney 
According to Forbes, George Clooney made more money in a single year than any other Hollywood actor ($239 Million) due to the sale of the Alcohol Company, followed by Dwayne Johnson ($124 Million).
