  • 1905 – Third Annus Mirabilis paper by Albert Einstein published

    The United States Federal Trade Commission was established by the Federal Trade Commission Act.
  • 1917 – Battle of Polygon Wood
    The Battle of Polygon Wood began in 1917
  • 1918 – World War I
    The Meuse Argonne Offensive began which lasted until the complete surrender of German forces.
  • 1934 – RMS Queen Mary Launched
    On September 26, the ocean liner RMS Queen Mary was launched
  • 1980 – Oktoberfest Terror Attack
    13 people died and 211 were injured in the Oktoberfest Terror Attack in Munich.
  • 1983 – Australia II Won the America’s Cup
    Australia II won the America’s Cup which marked the end of New York Yacht Club’s 132 year domination.
  • 1984 – Transfer of Sovereignty over Hong Kong
    The UK and China decided to transfer sovereignty over Hong Kong which was to take place in 1997.
  • 2008 – Yves Rosy, 1st person to fly a jet engine powered wing
    Swiss pilot and inventor Yves Rosy became the 1st person to fly a jet engine powered wing across the English Channel

  • 2009 – Typhoon Ketsana 
    Philippines, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand were hit by Typhoon Ketsana that caused around 700 fatalities.
