History, Affiliations and Rankings

The University of Tromso opened in 1972 and is situated in the Norwegian city of Troms. It was created by a parliamentary act in 1968 and is one of Norway's ten universities today. The University of Tromso is the sixth-biggest university in Norway and the largest research and educational institution in Northern Norway. Following a series of three mergers, the University became one of the most important driving forces of international cooperation in the High North. UiT is the northernmost university in the world, and is a keynote player in studying issues of climate change and the geography of Artic Norway. It has affiliations with European Universities Association and is a founding member of the University of Arctic. The University of Tromsø is ranked #445 in Best Global Universities by US News and World Report Rankings 2022.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

The third-largest university in Norway and the northernmost in the entire world is the University of tromso, popularly called the Arctic University of Norway. It's mission is implied by its location on the brink of the Arctic. The importance of the Arctic is rising on a worldwide scale. The four main campuses of the University of Tromso—Troms, Harstad, Alta, and Narvik—are all up to date and properly furnished. Student counselling, catering, housing, sports facilities, and a kindergarten are all provided by the Student Welfare Organization. The University of Tromso constitutes the following faculties - Faculty of Law, Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Sports, Tourism, and Social Work, Faculty of Biosciences, Fisheries, and Economics, Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education, Faculty of Health Sciences.

Accomplishments and Alumni 

In 2018, Stortinget (the Norwegian National Assembly) passed a law authorising the creation of a university in Norway's north. UiT the Arctic University of Norway has solidly established its reputation as a multifunctional university after fifty years. As a result, it has turned into the north's main engine for the advancement of knowledge and education. As we commemorate these numerous accomplishments in 2018, we also have the chance to highlight the tremendous contributions that UiT has made to the domains of research, teaching, innovation, and information dissemination. Some of the alumni of UIT are Monica Kristensen Solås (Norwegian meteorologist), Mads Gilbert (Norwegian physician), Sandra Borch (Norwegian Politician), Torgeir Knag Fylkesnes (Norwegian Politician).

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

Every semester, the university's international office hosts an introductory event for international students known as "the International Debut Week" to give them a head start and facilitate their social integration into UiT culture. The university's foreign student union coordinates often with the international office to plan cultural events and educational lectures. Approximately 70% of the university's students are from Northern Norway, 20% are from Southern Norway, and 10% are international. Many reputed companies visit this university for placement which are Accenture, Microsoft, NID, Lenovo etc
