About the University

History, Affiliations and Rankings

The University of Trento was founded in 1962. It was established as a Higher University Institute for Social Sciences. Eventually, it became the first Faculty of Sociology in Italy. In order to expand the educational opportunities of the University of Trento, the Faculty of Science was founded in 1972 and then in 1973 the Faculty of Economics. The academic project further expanded in 1984 with the Faculties of Arts and Humanities and Law and in 1985 with the Faculty of Engineering. It was in 2004 that the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences was founded. UoT is affiliated with European Universities Association (EUA) and Top International Managers in Engineering (TIME). The institution is one of the top-rated universities in Italy and has been ranked #440 by QS World University Rankings 2022 and #351-400 by THE World University Rankings 2022.
