The University of Trento was founded in 1962. It was established as a Higher University Institute for Social Sciences. Eventually, it became the first Faculty of Sociology in Italy. In order to expand the educational opportunities of the University of Trento, the Faculty of Science was founded in 1972 and then in 1973 the Faculty of Economics. The academic project further expanded in 1984 with the Faculties of Arts and Humanities and Law and in 1985 with the Faculty of Engineering. It was in 2004 that the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences was founded. UoT is affiliated with European University Association (EUA) and Top International Managers in Engineering (TIME). The institution is one of the top-rated universities of Italy and has been ranked #440 by QS 2022 and #351-400 by THE Rankings 2022.
The university has three main campuses, one in the city centre, one in the hills surrounding Trento and one in the nearby city of Rovereto. All of them are very well equipped with all essential facilities and a very efficient public transportation system. One of the main reasons why Trento has been consistently ranked among the top Italian cities is the quality of services. The University of Trento provides undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programmes across a wide variety of fields like Arts, Humanities, Science and Business. The university has a number of academic departments and also invests in research.
