History, Affiliations and Rankings
The University of Trento was founded in 1962. It was established as a Higher University Institute for Social Sciences. Eventually, it became the first Faculty of Sociology in Italy. In order to expand the educational opportunities of the University of Trento, the Faculty of Science was founded in 1972 and then in 1973 the Faculty of Economics. The academic project further expanded in 1984 with the Faculties of Arts and Humanities and Law and in 1985 with the Faculty of Engineering. It was in 2004 that the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences was founded. UoT is affiliated with European Universities Association (EUA) and Top International Managers in Engineering (TIME). The institution is one of the top-rated universities in Italy and has been ranked #440 by QS World University Rankings 2022 and #351-400 by THE World University Rankings 2022.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
The University of Trento is located on one of the most gorgeous natural landscapes, the Dolomites, which is a recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site. The university has three main campuses, one in the city centre, one in the hills surrounding Trento, and one in the nearby city of Rovereto. All of them are very well equipped with all essential facilities and a very efficient public transportation system. One of the main reasons why Trento has been consistently ranked among the top Italian cities is the quality of services. The University of Trento provides Undergraduate, Graduate, and Doctoral programs across its 11 constituent departments that offer courses in a wide variety of fields including, Arts, Humanities, Science, and Business, Economics and Management, Law, Physics, Biology, Industrial Engineering, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering and other study areas. Research opportunities and advanced training opportunities are also offered at the University of Trento.
Accomplishments and Alumni
The University of Trento is an academic and research powerhouse that is placed #10 among 41 universities in Italy. UniTrento also leads the Censis Rankings of medium-sized Italian universities, in six categories, including internationalization. Further, the University achieved a 95% rate of graduate employment within 5 years of graduation as compared to the overall rate of 89% in Italy. The School of International Studies at the University of Trento recently was recently awarded the 2022 APSIA Innovation Award. It offers a wide range of top-quality Undergraduate, Graduate and PhD programs that have been recognized for their scientific achievements and innovation. More than 60,000 students have graduated from the University of Trento since its founding. Some of the notable names from the university’s large alumni base include Franco Ianeselli (Mayor of Trento), Roberto Battiti (Italian Computer Scientist), Renato Curcio (Italian Author) and others.
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
The University of Trento encourages student diversity by promoting international admissions every year and offering a plethora of opportunities to Trento students to study abroad. Each year, a significant portion of exchange students come to Trento to spend a semester or an entire academic year, which allows multicultural interactions to take place on the campus. With time, the UniTrento brand has become well recognized among localized organizations that recruit Trento graduates. The university organizes regular placement days, on-campus interviews as well as career events and interactions with employers. Around 77% of UniTrento graduates are employed one year after graduation.
