Georgia State University started in 1913 as a night school. Initially, it was called the Georgia School of Technology's Evening School of Commerce. In the 1930s, with the reorganization of the University System of Georgia, the school became the Atlanta Extension Center of the University of Georgia and allowed students to earn degrees from several colleges in the University System. Today, the University is an urban, public research institution that is the leading cultural and economic center of the Southeastern US. The University is affiliated with the Oak Ridge Associated Universities, PIT-UN, Southeastern Universities Research Association, UIA, Coalition of Urban Serving Universities, and is a Space Grant College. In the QS World University Rankings, Georgia State ranks in the bracket #751-800, in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, it is placed in the range #401-500, while in the US News and World Report the University ranks #477 globally.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

Georgia State University has 6 campuses at the heart of urban downtown Atlanta that are composed of 12 Colleges and Schools and 84 Research Centers. The constituent Colleges and Schools are - Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, Byrdine F. Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions, College of the Arts, College of Arts & Sciences, College of Education and Human Development, J. Mack Robinson College of Business, College of Law, School of Public Health, Institute for Biomedical Sciences, Honours College, and Perimeter College. Over 200-degree programs across 100 study areas, 30+ Associate degree pathways and 70+ study abroad programs in 30+ countries are offered by Georgia State University. 

Accomplishments and Alumni 

Since its establishment 109 years ago, Georgia State University has had a long road of accomplishments. Since consolidating with Georgia Perimeter College in 2015, Georgia State has grown to 7 campuses and more than 54,000 students, becoming the largest university in the State and one of the largest in the nation. Georgia State has increased research funding by 252% over the last six years, a rate that surpasses the pace at most other research universities. Further, the University has an annual economic impact of worth $2.8+ billion on the Atlanta metropolitan area, becoming the 5th Fastest Growing Research Portfolios in the US and the 2nd Most Innovative US Universities. Many notable alumni like ABRA (Musician, Actress), Yolo Akili (Activist, Writer, and Emotional Health Advocate), and Amalia Amaki (Artist and Art Historian) have graduated from Georgia State University. 

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

Over 5% of the student body of Georgia State University comprises International students. More than 3,000 students from over 100 countries attend the University every year. It is from a total of more than 30,000 students. The Career Service Center of Georgia State University offers many resources to the students and alumni for connecting with potential employers and creating a better CV and a resume. The University hosts many career fairs for students to interact with employers. Some of the companies where Georgia State alumni are known to work at are - Delta Airlines, AT&T, Amazon, the Coca-Cola Company, NCR Corporation, IBM and Deloitte among others.
