History, Affiliations and Rankings
Chonnam National University is a non-profit and research-oriented national university in Korea. It was founded in the northwestern city of Gwangju and South Jeolla Province. Chonnam National University became a symbol of democracy, human rights as well as research & development in the present time. It is known for research in agricultural studies, life sciences, computer sciences, robotics, engineering and medical sciences. In March 2006, Yeosu National University merged with Chonnam National University to become its satellite office. Chonnam university has IEQAS, AACSB, and ABEEK accreditation. In QS World university ranking 2022, Chonnam University secured 751-800 ranking. In Time Higher Education Ranking 2022, Chonnam University secured 1001-1200th ranking in the world university ranking category. The motto of Chonnam University is “Truth, Creativity, Service.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
Apart from huge academic buildings Chonnam University has a good library and accommodation dormitories offered both on and off-campus. Chonnam University has two main campuses, one is in Gwangju Metropolitan City and the other is in Yeosu City. University offered academic courses in three categories i.e., Graduate Program, Professional Graduate Program and Special Graduate Program. CNU offers courses in the major areas of academics with 96 departments, 16 colleges and 11 graduate schools. It provides education in the natural sciences, engineering, human ecology, agriculture, life science, veterinary science, pharmacy, arts, law, medicine, culture, human ecology, social science and a few more.
Accomplishments and Alumni
Chonnam National University has ranked 10th nationwide and the 420th worldwide in the CWUR (Center for World University Rankings) world university ranking. University was also the 1st among the nine Korean national flagship universities in "Asia’s Top 75 Most Innovative Universities" in 2017 by Reuters. CNU has also expanded its global presence by establishing partnerships with 499 Universities in 62 countries and counting. Alumni of Chonnam National University are excelling in almost every profession from the Entertainment industry, Electronic media, Literature, Politics, Business, Defense etc. With the help of contribution to society from their work, these notable alumni are shining the name of their alma mater in and outside the country.
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
CNU is the home to approx. 35,000 students including 2000 approx international students from 75 countries. CNU is expanding its international presence by establishing partnerships with approximately 500 universities in 65 countries. Samsung Electronics, Amkor Technology, LG Electronics, 3M, LG Chem, LG Display, LG Innotek, Hyundai Motor Company, and Mando are among the companies visited for recruitment drives.
