Additionally, each term represents a different aspect of sexuality or gender identity. The meaning of LGBTQ is as follows: 

  • Lesbian: It refers to women who are attracted to other women.
  • Gay: Usually describes men who are attracted to other men.
  • Bisexual: Moreover, it signifies people who are attracted to men and women.
  • Transgender: They are people whose gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth.
  • Queer or Questioning: It includes those who may not conform to traditional gender or sexual norms or are exploring their identity.

How has the LGBTQ community Evolved?

Furthermore, there have also been more additions to the LGBTQ acronym, which is now also known as LGBTQIA+. 

  • Intersex: They are people born with variations in sex characteristics that do not fit typical definitions of male or female.
    • Moreover, Intersex people may have combinations of chromosomes, gonads, hormones, or genitals that differ from binary expectations.
  • Asexual: They signify people who experience little or no sexual attraction to others.
    • However, like gender, asexuality is a spectrum, and asexual people may still experience romantic or emotional attraction.

AgenderA person who identifies as having no gender or being without a gender identity.
BigenderA person who identifies as having two gender identities, either simultaneously or at different times.
DemisexualA person who experiences sexual attraction only after forming an emotional connection.
GraysexualA person who experiences sexual attraction infrequently or under specific circumstances hence falling between asexuality and sexuality.
PolysexualA person who is attracted to multiple genders, but not necessarily all genders.
CisgenderA person whose gender identity aligns with the sex they were assigned at birth.
Gender NonconformingA person whose gender expression does not adhere to societal expectations or norms for their gender.
AndrogynousA person who has a gender expression that is a mix of both masculine and feminine traits.
Third GenderA category for people who do not identify as male or female, usually used in cultures that recognize more than two genders.
